Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman may be preparing for a reunion after years of distance, and sources say it took a devastating loss to bring them back into contact.

The former couple, who were married for 11 years before splitting in 2001, have reportedly had little contact for decades. Now, insiders claim the deaths of their longtime friends Rob and Michele Reiner have reopened old memories and pushed Cruise, 63, and Kidman, 58, into more positive conversations.

The tragedy has also reportedly created a possible path toward a family meeting with their children, Isabella, 33, and Connor, 31.

Tragedy Reportedly Brought Cruise And Kidman Back Into Contact

According to an insider, Cruise and Kidman’s history with the Reiners goes back to the earliest days of their own relationship.

“Tom met Nicole around the same time Rob and Michele became a couple, and their relationships followed a similar arc,” the source said.

Both couples began dating in 1989. Reiner reportedly met photographer Michele Singer while directing ‘When Harry Met Sally,’ while Cruise and Kidman met after co-starring in ‘Days of Thunder.’

Sources said the two couples were close during that period and even went on double dates.

After the Reiners were killed in December, allegedly by their son Nick Reiner, Cruise and Kidman reportedly found themselves looking back on that shared chapter.

“They have been reminiscing about how close they were to them when they were a young couple,” one source said.

Their Children May Be Part Of The Reunion

The possible reunion is also tied to Kidman’s hopes of spending time with Isabella and Connor, the children she shares with Cruise.

The siblings lived with their father after the divorce, and Kidman’s relationship with them has long been a subject of public interest. According to the source, Kidman had already been hoping to make time to see them in the coming months. Now, Cruise may join that meeting.

“Nicole knows her kids are really looking forward to having their parents in the same room again, so she’s determined to follow through,” the insider said. The source added, “It’s a huge step because she and Tom didn’t even speak for so long, but enough time has passed that they’ve both been able to let it go.”

Sources Say The Conversations Have Been Positive

Cruise and Kidman are both reportedly single again, which has only added to the attention around the potential reunion.

Kidman filed for divorce from Keith Urban, 58, in September, while Cruise’s reported romance with Ana de Armas, 38, ended last summer.

Still, sources framed this possible reunion as emotional and family-focused rather than romantic. “They’ve had some really positive conversations recently, which has everyone hoping this could actually move forward,” the insider said.

Another source claimed the Reiners’ deaths forced Cruise to think about the long history he still shares with Kidman. “It was a gut check for Tom about how much he and Nicole shared and still have in common,” the source said. “They’re supporting each other through all this.”

After more than two decades of distance, the reported meeting would be a major shift. Cruise and Kidman may not be trying to rewrite their past, but sources say they may finally be ready to sit in the same room again.
