Jon Stewart tore into Donald Trump after the president stormed out of a tense ‘Meet The Press’ interview.

Trump sat down with NBC News’ Kristen Welker at a farm in Wisconsin for an interview that aired on June 7. The conversation grew increasingly heated as Welker pressed him on several issues, including the Iran war, potential interest rate hikes, his proposed $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization fund,” and his repeated claims about the 2020 election.

The interview ended with Trump tearing off his lapel microphone and walking away. “You’re a one-sided, crooked network. Sorry. Let’s call it quits because I’ve had enough,” Trump told Welker before leaving the set. “Thank you, darling. Have a good time.”

Stewart used one of the episodes of ‘The Daily Show’ to mock the moment, calling the interview Trump’s “worst nightmare”: a woman asking relevant follow-up questions.

Stewart Said Trump Could Not Handle Being Challenged

Stewart initially joked about the clip, but his tone turned sharper as he watched Trump lose patience during the interview.

“Now, you could view this as the fit of an incredibly fragile man-baby, whose paper-thin skin can’t handle venturing out of the sycophantic embrace of his acolytes,” Stewart said. Then he added, “Or, actually, I don’t know how else you can view it. It really is just that. It is sad. It’s very sad.”

Stewart focused on Trump’s response when Welker challenged his election-fraud claims. The late-night host described those claims as Trump’s emergency escape route whenever an interview becomes uncomfortable.

But this time, Welker did not move on. She asked Trump, “Where’s the evidence to that?”

For Stewart, that was the key moment.

Trump’s Usual Escape Route Did Not Work

Stewart said Trump’s fallback failed because Welker kept pressing.

“Trump’s fail-safe failed to safe,” he said.

He argued Trump then had two choices. The first was to confront the fact that his 2020 election claims have not survived legal scrutiny and that he has not produced credible evidence proving the race was rigged. The second option, Stewart said, was to make an exit.

Trump chose the exit. As the clip showed Trump dropping his microphone and walking away, Stewart described it as a “smoke bomb” moment.

The visual quickly became the center of the story. Trump had not just pushed back against the interviewer. He physically ended the exchange.

Stewart Said Journalists Should Stop Backing Down

Stewart argued that the moment should push journalists to challenge Trump more directly. “Maybe, finally, this moment will give journalists permission not to back down,” Stewart said. He added that reporters should stop simply leaving Trump’s claims unchallenged before moving on to the next topic.

The segment landed during a tense period for late-night television and political coverage.

Last year, Stewart publicly raised concerns about ‘The Daily Show’ after Paramount canceled ‘The Late Show’ following Stephen Colbert’s criticism of the company’s $16 million settlement with Trump.

Paramount said the cancellation was strictly a financial decision and was not tied to Colbert’s content, performance, or any other company matter.

When asked whether he feared a similar fate for ‘The Daily Show,’ Stewart admitted it was a fair question but said he had not heard anything from management. “They haven’t called me and said like, ‘Don’t get too comfortable in that office, Stewart!’” he said. Then he joked that he had been kicked out of places before and would land on his feet.

For now, Stewart is still using his platform to hammer Trump. And after the ‘Meet The Press’ walkout, he made his view bluntly clear: Trump can talk tough, but he still does not like being cornered by follow-up questions.
