Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter Zahara Jolie-Pitt has reportedly filed to drop “Pitt” from her last name.
Court documents obtained by PEOPLE on June 9 show that Zahara, 21, filed a petition for a name change in California Superior Court. The filing was dated April 28. TMZ first reported the news.
The move makes Zahara the latest Jolie-Pitt child to take legal steps toward removing Pitt’s surname.
Zahara Jolie-Pitt Files For Name Change
Zahara’s filing comes shortly after her older brother, Maddox Jolie, 24, also moved to legally remove Pitt from his name.
Their sister Shiloh made the same move in 2024. She filed to change her surname after turning 18 and now goes by Shiloh Jolie.
Jolie, 51, and Pitt, 62, share six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne. The former couple separated in 2016 after two years of marriage and more than a decade together. Their divorce was finalized in December 2024.
Zahara Had Already Been Using Jolie
Zahara had already hinted at the change before the court filing.
At her May 17 graduation in Atlanta, the commencement program reportedly listed her as Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt. But when she received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, she was announced as Zahara Marley Jolie.
She also introduced herself as Zahara Marley Jolie in an August 2024 video shared by Essence while joining Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
“My name is Zahara Marley Jolie,” she said in the clip.
Vivienne has also used Jolie professionally. In a May 2024 Playbill for ‘The Outsiders,’ the Broadway musical co-produced by her and Jolie, she was credited as Vivienne Jolie. It remains unclear whether she has legally changed her name.
Pitt Family Rift Remains In Focus
A source close to Pitt expressed sadness over the latest name-change filing.
“It’s disheartening to see the continued public display of successfully alienating children from their other parent,” the source said.
Another source told PEOPLE in July 2024 that Pitt has “virtually no contact with his adult children.” The insider added that Jolie has primary custody, while the agreement allows visitation with the younger children.
A separate source said Jolie has remained deeply involved in Zahara’s life, from college move-in to sorority events and graduation.
“She truly encourages each child to embrace their unique personalities, interests, and talents,” the insider said.
For Zahara, the filing marks another personal step in a family story that remains closely watched.
