Paul McCartney knows a thing or two about being swallowed whole by global fame.
The Beatles legend, 83, recently reflected on Taylor Swift’s massive reach and said he can see real similarities between her career now and the kind of worldwide attention The Beatles faced at their peak.
During a BBC Radio 2 interview, McCartney was asked whether Swift’s level of fame reminded him of Beatlemania. He did not dodge the comparison.
Paul McCartney Sees The Taylor Swift Parallel
“Absolutely, yeah,” McCartney said. “You can definitely see the parallel, you know.”
McCartney said Swift’s global recognition feels familiar to him because The Beatles experienced that same rare kind of cultural takeover. It is not just hit songs. It is the crowds, the headlines, the fan devotion and the feeling that one artist has become part of daily life.
“The level of fame and worldwide recognition that Taylor Swift has now is reminiscent of what we experienced,” he said.
Still, McCartney made it clear he is not rushing to give Swift career guidance. She seems to be doing just fine without a lecture from rock royalty.
“But honestly, I don’t think she needs any advice from me,” he said.
McCartney Jokes He Is The Grandfather Figure Now
McCartney said he would gladly share advice if Swift ever asked for it. But he also joked about where he fits in the current pop world.
“If she ever asked, I’d be more than happy to share my insights,” McCartney said with a laugh. “I suppose I’m like the older brother to that generation. Or more accurately, the grandfather at this point.”
That line had classic McCartney charm. Self-aware. Warm. Just cheeky enough.
He also revealed that he recently spent time with some of today’s biggest female pop stars at a party hosted by his wife, Nancy Shevell, and his daughter, fashion designer Stella McCartney.
McCartney Met Today’s Pop Power Players
The guest list included Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish. That is not exactly a quiet dinner crowd.
“They really know how to get the cool crowd together,” McCartney said.
The former Beatle said he had the chance to speak with the artists and came away impressed.
“I had the chance to chat with all of them,” he said. “They’re incredibly cool and talented individuals.”
McCartney said he admires their voices and their command of the moment. And while he would be happy to help if asked, he does not think this generation needs hand-holding.
“They’ve got it all figured out,” he said.
For Swift, the Beatles comparison is another sign of just how huge her modern pop reign has become. For McCartney, it seems less like a warning and more like recognition from someone who already survived the storm once.
