Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith just stepped out together again, and the timing has people paying attention.
The estranged couple made their first joint public appearance in six months during a family dinner at Nobu Malibu on June 2. The outing brought them back into the same frame after years of public questions about their marriage, their separation, and the unusual arrangement they have both discussed in interviews.
Will and Jada quietly separated in 2016, but they remain legally married. That alone keeps fans watching whenever they appear together.
Will And Jada Step Out With Family
The pair were photographed leaving Nobu Malibu after dinner with family members. Jada went for a sharper dinner look in high-waisted black trousers, a fitted T-shirt, and a flowing knee-length jacket.
She completed the all-black look with a headwrap, sandals, large silver hoops, two diamond tennis necklaces, and a large crocodile bag. Will kept things much more relaxed. The ‘Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ actor wore gray sweatpants, a T-shirt, a baseball cap, and matching tennis shoes. He also carried a maroon bomber jacket, giving the casual look a small hit of color.
Their family joined them for the outing. Jaden Smith, 27, was there, along with Will’s mother, Caroline. Trey Smith, 33, whom Will shares with his first wife, Sheree Zampino, was also seen at the dinner. Will and Jada also share daughter Willow, 25.
Their Marriage Still Raises Questions
The public outing matters because Jada has been unusually open about the state of their marriage.
While promoting her memoir in 2023, the ‘Girls Trip’ actress said she and Will had been living separate lives for years. She also made it clear that divorce was not part of the plan.
“I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce,” Jada said during an interview with Hoda Kotb. “We will work through whatever. And I just haven’t been able to break that promise.” That comment still follows them. Every joint appearance now gets read through that lens.
Their Last Public Outings Were Rare
Before the Nobu dinner, Will and Jada were last seen together at Paris Fashion Week on January 21. They attended the event to support Jaden as he made his debut as Christian Louboutin’s first men’s creative director.
Before that, they were photographed having dinner at Nobu in September. They also posed together at the ‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die’ premiere in May 2024.
So, what does this latest outing mean? Maybe nothing dramatic. Maybe it was simply a family dinner. Still, with Will and Jada, a casual dinner rarely stays casual for long.
