Britney Spears’ March DUI arrest is back in the spotlight after a newly obtained police report revealed more details about what allegedly happened during the traffic stop.
The 44-year-old singer was pulled over near her home in Ventura County, California, on March 4 after police responded to an anonymous report about a driver “traveling at high speeds and swerving.”
According to the report, officers later observed Spears’ vehicle crossing into another lane several times before activating emergency lights and a siren.
Britney Spears Police Report Reveals New Details
The officer wrote that Spears did not immediately respond to the emergency lights, prompting the siren to be used to get her attention.
Once she pulled over, police claimed they noticed the smell of alcohol inside the vehicle. Spears allegedly told officers she had consumed one champagne mimosa about seven hours earlier.
The report also states that Spears told officers she had taken several prescription medications that day, including Lamictal, Prozac, and Adderall. According to the report, officers also found a bottle labeled “Adderall” in her purse and claimed the medication was not prescribed to her.
Police also reported seeing an empty wine glass in the cup holder.
Spears later passed two chemical breath tests after being transported to a local precinct. Her blood alcohol level reportedly registered at .06, below California’s legal limit of .08 for drivers 21 and older.
Officers Describe Chaotic Traffic Stop
The police report described Spears as having “red and watery” eyes and dilated pupils. Officers also claimed her speech was rapid and slurred, her walk was unsteady, and her mood shifted during the interaction.
According to the report, Spears initially refused to exit the vehicle, saying she had been “pranked and harassed” in the past and wanted to speak to her lawyer.
“I instructed Spears to exit the [car], but she initially refused,” the officer wrote.
Spears allegedly argued that she had the right “as a woman” not to get out of the car, but eventually stepped out after about 10 minutes.
Police attempted field sobriety tests at the scene, but Spears allegedly said the lights were hurting her head and that she did not want to continue.
Spears Entered Rehab After Arrest
Spears was taken to the CHP Moorpark Office for a Drug Recognition Evaluation and later transported to Los Robles Medical Center in Thousand Oaks for a blood draw.
Us Weekly previously reported that Spears entered rehab on April 12. A source claimed her sons, Sean Preston Federline and Jayden James Federline, encouraged her to seek help after becoming concerned about her recent behavior.
“Britney went to rehab after several conversations with both of her sons,” the insider said. The source added that her sons wanted her to focus on “health and happiness.”
DUI Charge Was Later Dismissed
Spears was officially charged on April 30 with one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. However, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office later extended a “wet reckless” plea offer.
That type of plea is common in cases involving a low blood alcohol level, no crash, no injury, and no prior DUI history, according to the DA’s office.
Spears’ lawyers accepted the deal on her behalf. During a May 4 court hearing, the DUI charge was dismissed.
As part of the plea agreement, Spears was sentenced to 12 months of probation and one day in jail, though she received credit for time already spent in custody. She must also complete a DUI class, pay state-mandated fees, and continue mental health treatment.
“Through her plea today, Britney has accepted responsibility for her conduct,” her attorney Michael Goldstein said. He added that she has taken “significant steps to implement positive change.”
For Spears, the case is legally reduced. The police report, however, has brought new attention to the chaotic night that led to her arrest.
