Nick Cannon is catching heat for admitting he treats his teenage twins differently when dating enters the chat. The TV host said his 15-year-old son, Moroccan, can date, while his twin sister, Monroe, cannot. The Nick Cannon comments quickly sparked a backlash over gender, safety and old-school parenting. Even Cannon called the rule a double standard.

Nick Cannon Comments Spark Backlash

Cannon discussed the issue on The TMZ Podcast, where he talked about the twins he shares with Mariah Carey. He said Moroccan has started dating and that he has allowed it. However, he said Monroe does not get the same freedom.

Cannon said he feels more protective of his daughter because of the risks girls can face. People reported that he also said Monroe would need to explain what dating means before he allowed it. He added that he hopes open communication helps her make smart choices.

The Double Standard Hits A Nerve

The backlash came fast because Moroccan and Monroe are twins. Critics argued that if one 15-year-old can date, the other should not face a different rule based on gender alone. Others said Cannon’s approach places the burden of safety on girls while giving boys more room to experiment.

Cannon did not dodge the label. TMZ reported that he openly described the rule as “absolutely a double standard.” He also said he worries about someone hurting his daughter and how he might react if that happened.

That honesty may explain the thinking, but it did not calm the reaction. Many fans saw the rule as a familiar pattern. Daughters get locked down. Sons get coached through the same world their sisters get warned about.

Father Of 12 Faces A Parenting Spotlight

Cannon’s parenting choices already receive constant attention because he has 12 children with six women. His twins with Carey remain his oldest children and often appear in public milestones. The dating comments now put a sharper focus on how he handles teen independence.

The timing also gives the story extra attention. People reported that Cannon has a Netflix docuseries coming this winter about his life as a father of 12. That project will bring his family dynamic back into the public eye in a much bigger way.

Cannon framed his stance as protection, not punishment. Still, the conversation around his comments has grown beyond one celebrity dad. It now sits inside a larger debate about how parents prepare sons and daughters for dating.

For now, Cannon has not walked back the rule. He has also not shut down the possibility of Monroe dating forever. Yet the internet has already landed on the main question: why should twins live under two different rulebooks?
