Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein are already getting people talking before ‘Office Romance’ even hits Netflix.
The 56-year-old singer and actress opened up about working with Goldstein, 45, at the Netflix Upfront in New York City on Wednesday, May 13. Their upcoming romantic comedy has not premiered yet, but Lopez’s comments about their connection are already feeding a very obvious question: is this just movie chemistry, or is something happening here?
“We had great chemistry to begin with,” Lopez said. “It just grew as we did the film together.”
That was enough for fans to start watching closely.
Jennifer Lopez Praises Brett Goldstein’s Softer Side
Lopez said Goldstein surprised her because she expected him to be closer to his rougher ‘Ted Lasso’ character, Roy Kent.
“I expected more of a rough guy, but you get this kind, gentle but also very smart person that is so charming,” Lopez said. “That was a surprise, I think.”
She added that she was already a fan of his before filming.
“I was a huge fan of his from him doing ‘Ted Lasso’. Roy Kent, that’s one of my favorite characters,” the ‘Marry Me’ actress said. “I thought he was going to be more like the character, but he was so soft-spoken and sweet and totally different.”
That kind of praise is standard promo language. Still, with Lopez’s love life always under public watch, even harmless chemistry talk tends to become gossip fuel fast.

Director Says Their Chemistry Was Obvious Early
Director Ol Parker said the connection was clear before filming even began.
“I had lunch with them way before we began, and we just laughed all the way through the lunch,” Parker said. “And I was like, ‘Oh, this is gonna go great.’”
Goldstein, who co-wrote the movie with Joe Kelly, also said the role was written with Lopez in mind.
“We started asking ourselves who the best rom-com star is, and without hesitation, we both said JLo,” Goldstein said.
He added, “It’s easy to write a rom-com when you have JLo in mind. She’s the best at this stuff.”
Fans May Be Split On The Buzz
In ‘Office Romance’, Lopez plays Jackie Cruz, a CEO who falls for her newly hired employee, Daniel Blanchflower, played by Goldstein. Their secret romance pushes both characters to stop following rules and start following their hearts.
The movie also stars Betty Gilpin, Tony Hale, Amy Sedaris, Edward James Olmos, and Bradley Whitford.
For now, there is no actual confirmation of anything beyond on-screen chemistry. That matters. But the setup is exactly the kind of thing fans love to debate: Lopez praising Goldstein, the director saying they clicked immediately, and a rom-com built around forbidden workplace attraction.
Some viewers may want the real-life buzz. Others will probably roll their eyes and call it pure Netflix promo.
Either way, ‘Office Romance’ arrives on Netflix June 5, and the chemistry talk is already doing its job.
