Demi Moore arrived at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival with another major red carpet moment, but the reaction quickly moved beyond fashion.
The 63-year-old actress walked the opening night red carpet in France on Tuesday in a strapless sequin Jacquemus gown that put her arms in full focus. Moore completed the look with a diamond Chopard necklace and floral-shaped earrings.
Some outlets described the look as “toned,” but many online commenters strongly disagreed. They argued that Moore’s arms looked alarmingly thin, not athletic, and accused the media of dressing up a concerning image as red carpet glam.
Demi Moore’s Cannes Look Sparks Health Concerns
Moore and her stylist, Brad Goreski, shared a closer look at the gown in a joint Instagram video.
“Maybe one of my most favorites dresses on you,” Rita Wilson wrote in the comments.
Other fans praised Moore as well.
“I still think she looks great,” one user commented. “She’s always been beautiful.”
Another wrote, “Insane! I am so set for your Cannes moments!”
But the praise was quickly met with concern.
“Yes she’s gorgeous but the extreme thinness is not something we should glamorize,” one person wrote. “I don’t think it’s a healthy example for an idol and role model.”
Another fan added, “I’ve been a big fan of yours for years, Demi, and I say with the utmost compassion that I hope you take care of your health. A lot of people care about you.”

‘Toned’ Label Gets Pushback Online
The debate grew after other publishers described Moore’s arms as “toned.” Some social media users said that framing missed the point entirely.
One X user responded to the “toned arms” description by writing, “I’m sorry. I’m a big fan of Demi Moore. But this is anorexia, supported by Ozempic and pushed by the media.”
Another person wrote that Moore looked “fragile,” “frail,” and “unrecognizable,” adding, “This is terrifying. Do not applaud this.”
Other commenters used harsher language, with some bringing up “anorexia,” “Ozempic,” and GLP-1 speculation. Those comments remain speculation, and Moore has not publicly suggested that any medication is involved.
Some fans stepped in to defend her.
“For everyone saying she is too skinny… I am [5?7?] and as you get older, your appetite decreases,” one person wrote. “And newsflash, some of us get thin. Stop being so judgmental!”

Moore’s Cannes Week Continues
Moore is serving on this year’s Cannes competition jury, making her one of the most visible stars at the festival.
Before the opening ceremony, she attended a photocall with fellow jury members in a polka-dot Jacquemus dress, which some fans praised as whimsical. On Wednesday, she appeared at a screening for ‘La vie d’une femme’ in a sweeping purple tulle gown with a wet-hair look.
Still, the conversation around her Cannes appearance has remained focused on her shrinking frame and the larger Hollywood pressure around thinness.
Worries over Moore’s appearance have circulated since her 2026 SAG Actor Awards appearance in March. She is one of several Hollywood women whose noticeably smaller frames have sparked public debate about the return of extreme thinness as a beauty standard.
Moore Has Spoken About Body Pressure Before
Moore has previously discussed her difficult history with body image, exercise, and eating habits.
In 2024, she told Elle that a Hollywood producer once told her “to lose weight multiple times.”
“It was very embarrassing and humiliating,” Moore said.
She added that the comment pushed her into “torture and harshness” against herself and led to “real extreme behaviors.”
Moore also spoke about self-worth while accepting her Golden Globe for ‘The Substance’, saying that people can spend years feeling they are not “smart enough or pretty enough or skinny enough or successful enough.”
At Cannes, Moore is still commanding attention. The problem is what kind of attention it has become. For some fans, the red carpet look was elegant. For others, calling her arms “toned” felt like another example of Hollywood trying to glamorize extreme thinness.
