Katy Perry just turned Josh Groban’s engagement into a punchline, and yes, she brought ‘The One That Got Away’ into it.
The pop star reacted to Groban’s engagement with a deliberately dramatic TikTok on Monday, May 11. In the clip, Perry appeared to fake-cry in front of an article about Groban’s happy news while her 2010 hit played in the background.
Then she took the bit further. Perry poured herself a comically large drink, sipped it in a robe, and let the drink spill as she played up the heartbroken act. Her caption was short: “congrats,” along with a champagne glass emoji.

Groban announced in April that he had proposed to theater actress Natalie McQueen.
“MY BEST FRIEND SAID YES!!!” he wrote on Instagram at the time.
Perry’s reaction came weeks later, and the joke was easy to understand for longtime fans. She has said before that ‘The One That Got Away’ was inspired by Groban, whom she briefly dated around 2009.
The song, from her ‘Teenage Dream’ era, reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has recently found new life on TikTok. That timing made Groban’s engagement almost too perfect for Perry to ignore.

Perry confirmed the song’s inspiration during a 2017 livestream conversation with James Corden.
Groban later responded during a 2018 appearance on ‘Watch What Happens Live’, saying the reveal caught him off guard.
“I was not expecting that,” he said. “That was a double take and a spit of my coffee. It’s very sweet of her to say that.”
Perry’s new TikTok makes the old story feel fresh again. It is not exactly a breakup confession. It is more like a pop star seeing an obvious joke and refusing to leave it alone.

Perry is not exactly sitting around mourning Groban. She has been publicly linked to Justin Trudeau, and the two have appeared happy together in photos she has shared online.
