Nicole Kidman’s Mother’s Day post was meant to be sweet. Instead, it reopened one of the oldest questions about her family.

The 58-year-old actress marked Mother’s Day with a throwback photo of herself with Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith, 15, the daughters she shares with ex-husband Keith Urban. In the image, Kidman carried Sunday on her back while Faith looked up at her, with all three wearing natural curls.

“To my beautiful girls, the greatest joy is being your mother,” Kidman wrote. “Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers in the world.” The tribute looked warm. Then fans noticed who was missing.

Fans Asked About Isabella And Connor

Kidman is also mother to Isabella Jane Cruise, 33, and Connor Cruise, whom she adopted during her marriage to Tom Cruise. Their absence from the Mother’s Day post quickly sparked criticism online.

“What about the other two kids?” one person asked.

Another wrote, “I thought you had 4 kids! This is so weird.”

A third added, “This hurts my heart,” while another commenter said, “Other kids just used to be a past?”

The backlash was blunt. Some fans accused Kidman of leaving out her adopted children and reopened the long-running question of whether she is distant from Isabella and Connor.

But Bella’s Reaction Tells A Different Story

The internet’s “bad mom” judgment may be too simple.

One key detail softened the backlash: Bella herself liked the post. While Bella and Kidman have not spoken publicly about each other in years, they reportedly follow and support each other on social media. That matters. It suggests the public picture may not match the private one.

Kidman has also been careful about what she says publicly, especially after her split from Keith Urban. Their divorce was finalized in January 2026, and their agreement reportedly stated that neither would speak badly about the other or each other’s families.

Speaking to Variety earlier this year, Kidman said her family remains her priority. “What I’m grateful for is my family and keeping them as is and moving forward,” she said. “Everything else I don’t discuss out of respect.”

The Tom Cruise Family Question Still Follows Her

Kidman and Cruise adopted Bella and Connor in the 1990s after a painful pregnancy loss.

“From the minute Tom and I were married, I wanted to have babies, and we lost a baby early on, so that was really very traumatic,” Kidman told Vanity Fair in 2007. “And that’s when we would adopt Bella.”

Bella has since built a quieter creative life, while Connor reportedly lives in Clearwater, Florida, with a routine centered on deep-sea fishing and his barbecue business.

Kidman has rarely discussed her current relationship with them in detail. That silence has left room for fans to speculate, especially around Scientology and the family distance that has long surrounded her older children.

Still, one Instagram post does not tell the full story. It did raise an awkward question, but Bella’s quiet like may say more than the comment section did.
