Timothée Chalamet’s Knicks date night with Kylie Jenner has taken a strange turn.

The actor, 30, was sitting courtside at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday, April 28, when fans noticed something other than the game, his outfit, or Jenner beside him. They focused on his posture.

Photos and clips from the celebrity-packed row showed Chalamet seated next to Tina Fey, 55, with his legs spread while leaning forward toward the court. Fey, meanwhile, appeared more tightly positioned, with her legs together and her hands folded in her lap.

That was enough for social media to start a full manspreading debate.

Fans Said Tina Fey Looked Cramped

The row included Kylie Jenner, Ben Stiller, Christine Taylor, Tracy Morgan, Edie Falco and Fey, making it one of the more star-heavy courtside lineups of the night. But Chalamet’s seating posture quickly became the main talking point.

“Timothée Chalamet if you don’t stop manspreading on Tina Fey I swear to god,” one user wrote on X. Another compared the scene to public transit, joking, “The L train at 7 in the morning.” A third person called the ‘Dune’ actor “such an inconsiderate tool.”

There is no indication that Fey complained, and neither Fey nor Chalamet has publicly addressed the reaction. The whole debate is being built from a few images and clips from a live sports event.

Expert Says Chalamet Looked ‘Dominant’

Body language expert Inbaal Honigman later weighed in, calling Chalamet’s posture an expression of dominance. “Chalamet’s manspreading next to a visibly uncomfortable Fey reads as an expression of dominance,” Honigman said. “It suggests a sense of perceived superiority, as though he is important enough not to consider whether his posture is encroaching on others’ space.”

Honigman said Fey’s posture suggested discomfort. “As for Fey, the actress’s face suggests she would rather be elsewhere,” she said.

The expert also pointed to Fey’s folded hands and narrowed frame, saying she appeared to “shrink herself to fit the situation.” “She narrows her posture to accommodate those around her, seemingly making space for the men and their presence,” Honigman said.

Chalamet Was Not The Only One Taking Space

The expert also noted that Chalamet was not the only man in the row sitting with his legs apart. Tracy Morgan, seated on Fey’s other side, was also described as sitting with his knees wide. Ben Stiller, seated farther down near Jenner, was also said to be taking up notable space.

That detail makes the internet pile-on a little less clean. Chalamet became the face of the backlash, but the broader courtside setup may have been cramped in general.

Still, the photos gave viewers exactly what social media loves: a famous actor, a beloved comedian, a body language read, and a small awkward moment that can be turned into a bigger argument about manners.

For Chalamet, it was supposed to be a Knicks date night. For the internet, it became a posture scandal.
