Ellen DeGeneres is reportedly trying hypnosis as she works through a quieter, more complicated chapter after her talk show exit and years of public backlash.

The former daytime TV giant is said to be using hypnotherapy as a wellness tool alongside her wife, Portia de Rossi. DeGeneres has tried hypnosis before, including a 2006 session on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ when she attempted to quit smoking.

Now, insiders claim the practice has become more personal. “Truth is, she’s feeling pretty beat up in life right now and needs a boost, which she believes hypnosis is providing,” a source claimed.

For DeGeneres, who once built a massive brand around being upbeat and kind, the past few years have clearly not been simple.

Sources Say Ellen And Portia Trust Hypnotherapy

A source claimed DeGeneres and de Rossi both believe hypnosis helps them reset. Some observers are not convinced. One insider questioned whether the couple could be spending heavily on something that may not deliver the results they want. “People can’t help but wonder if [Ellen] and Portia are being taken for a ride with this stuff,” the source said. “It’s not like you can hypnotize yourself. You have to hire a specialist to come to your home and do this to you, and that isn’t cheap.”

Financially, the couple can afford it. Their combined wealth has been estimated in the hundreds of millions, and they have long been known for expensive home renovation projects. Still, the source suggested DeGeneres may be vulnerable right now. “She’s vulnerable right now, and that creates an opportunity for people to take advantage of her and Portia, unfortunately!” the insider claimed.

Her Dory Comeback Is Getting Attention

DeGeneres is also preparing to return to one of her most famous roles.

She is set to reprise Dory in a new Pixar short set in the world of ‘Finding Nemo.’ Plot details and release plans are still under wraps, but the project is already drawing interest.

DeGeneres first voiced the forgetful blue tang in ‘Finding Nemo,’ which won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. She later returned for ‘Finding Dory,’ which made more than $1 billion worldwide.

The role remains one of her safest public connections. Dory is beloved, familiar and far removed from the workplace scandal that changed the later years of DeGeneres’ TV career.

Ellen Has Addressed Her Career Fallout

DeGeneres ended ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ in 2022 after years on daytime television. Before that, the show faced allegations of a toxic workplace, which damaged her public image.

She addressed the fallout in her 2024 Netflix special, ‘Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval,’ joking that she had been “kicked out of show business.” She also joked about gardening, raising chickens, and the backlash to her “be kind” image.

DeGeneres later suggested the special could be her final major on-screen appearance. She also relocated to the U.K. with de Rossi and said their decision to stay there was influenced by Donald Trump’s return to office.

The couple has since been linked to both the U.K. and Montecito, suggesting they may split time rather than fully settle in one place.

For now, DeGeneres seems to be trying to rebuild from the inside out. A Dory return may help her professionally. The hypnosis, if the reports are accurate, is apparently about getting through the rest of it.
