Kylie Jenner posted a few glam photos in front of her designer handbag collection. The internet, very predictably, had thoughts.

The 28-year-old beauty mogul shared an Instagram carousel on Tuesday, April 21, showing herself standing in front of shelves filled with Hermès Birkin bags. The luxury handbags are among the most famous status pieces in fashion, with some reportedly costing as much as $200,000 each.

Jenner wore a lace top with low-rise black pants and captioned the photos, “can’t a girl have fun.”

For some fans, the answer was apparently no.

The comment section quickly filled with criticism from people who called the photos “tone deaf” and accused Jenner of showing off extreme wealth during a time when many people are struggling.

Fans Called Out The Price Of The Bags

The Birkin display became the main issue.

“One row of those bags could end hunger on the east coast,” one person wrote.

Another commenter asked, “How many homeless could you feed if you sold just half of your handbag collection? Just asking here? Do you want change? We have to be the change.”

The reaction was not exactly shocking. Jenner’s wealth has been part of her public image for years, from luxury cars to mansions to designer-heavy social media posts. Still, a wall of Birkins has a way of pushing people’s buttons.

The bags are not ordinary accessories. They are luxury trophies. Seeing several of them lined up together made the post feel, to critics, less like a closet photo and more like a wealth flex.

PETA Took Aim At The Birkin Collection

PETA also entered the conversation and went after Jenner directly.

“That Birkin wall is a graveyard,” the organization wrote. “Clearly your empathy is buried with the bones.”

The comment appeared to refer to the use of animal skins in some luxury handbag production. Hermès has faced criticism from animal rights groups for years over exotic-skin bags, and Jenner’s photo gave activists a fresh celebrity target.

For PETA, the backlash was not only about money. It was also about the materials behind the handbags.

Jenner has not publicly responded to the criticism from fans or PETA.

Kylie Has Been Criticized For Her Luxury Closet Before

This is not the first time Jenner has taken heat for showing off her handbag collection.

Back in 2018, she gave fans a tour of her former Hidden Hills mansion in California and revealed an entire room dedicated to luxury purses.

“This is pretty much where I keep all my purses,” she said at the time, while showing off rows of designer bags. “I made a little room in my house and I did this all custom so they all could have a little home and be lit up really pretty.”

That tour also sparked criticism, and Jenner eventually turned off the comments.

As of 2026, Celebrity Net Worth reports Jenner’s net worth at $700 million. That number makes her designer collection easier to explain, though not easier for critics to stomach.

For Jenner, the post may have been a simple fashion flex. For everyone else, it became another argument about celebrity wealth, luxury branding, and how much showing off is too much.
