Donald Trump is publicly backing Tiger Woods after the golf legend’s latest car crash, even as DUI talk keeps getting louder.

The president weighed in after Woods’ March 27 arrest and made it clear where he stands. Trump said Woods is not dealing with alcohol issues and pointed instead to the years of pain the golfer has lived with after repeated surgeries and major injuries. The comments come as fresh scrutiny swirls around Woods’ health, his relationship with Vanessa Trump, and what this could mean for the people closest to him.

For Trump, this is not some distant celebrity story. Woods is dating Vanessa Trump, the president’s former daughter-in-law, which makes the whole thing feel much more personal inside the Trump orbit.

Trump Defends Tiger Woods After Crash Scare

Trump tried to cool the temperature around Woods by stressing that the golfer’s breath test came back clean. “He tested negative for alcohol, as you know, and he is under tremendous physical pressure from his various ailments, you know, the back and the leg,” Trump said.

He also made the point that Woods has been living through constant pain for years, with multiple back surgeries and leg procedures hanging over his day-to-day life. According to the reporting, Woods told deputies he had taken medication for pain tied to his long list of physical issues.

That defense matters because the scene described by officers looked troubling. Deputies said they found two loose hydrocodone pills in Woods’ pocket and observed him sweating heavily, moving sluggishly, and showing signs of impairment, including bloodshot eyes and extremely dilated pupils. He reportedly blew 0.00 on a breathalyzer but refused to provide a urine sample, which led to him being booked on DUI-related charges tied to property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test.

So while Trump is trying to shut down the alcohol angle, the bigger cloud around the incident is clearly not going away yet.

Support From Trump, But Also a Very Clear Boundary

Trump’s support for Woods does not mean he is relaxed about everything. Reports say he drew a hard line when it comes to his grandchildren, who spend time around Woods through Vanessa. After hearing about the crash, Trump reportedly decided they should not ride in any vehicle with Woods behind the wheel.

That detail makes the situation more loaded than a simple show of public support. On one side, Trump is defending Woods and talking him up as an athlete dealing with brutal pain. On the other, he is reportedly making private decisions that show real concern about risk.

Vanessa’s position also looks shaky. Reports say she has taken a step back from Woods after the crash, with sources claiming the incident served as a wake-up call. Her focus, according to those reports, is her five children, and she may not want to get pulled into another messy public chapter.

Donald Trump Jr., meanwhile, has reportedly been described in two very different ways. Some accounts say he stayed calm and was mainly relieved no one was hurt. Others say he was angry and saw the crash as confirmation of old worries about Woods.

Tiger Woods Still Wants Control of His Own Life

One detail that keeps coming up is Woods’ refusal to give up the wheel. Despite two car accidents in five years, he reportedly has no interest in hiring a driver. The reason is familiar by now. Woods is deeply protective of his privacy and does not want more people inside his daily routine than necessary.

Friends and colleagues have also spoken up in his corner. Kevin Kisner said Woods had been doing everything he could to come back and help his TGL team, adding, “He signed up for the U.S. Senior Open. He was trying to do anything he could to come back and try and help our TGL team get ready, hopefully try and play the masters.”

Others in golf, including Mark Lye and Paul McGinley, have also expressed concern while urging Woods to take care of himself.

The legal case is still hanging over him, and that means Trump’s supportive words may not settle much for long. They do, however, add a fresh political and family twist to a story that was already getting plenty of heat.
