Jennifer Lopez says her divorce from Ben Affleck pushed her to step away from work and focus on herself.
In an interview with Good Morning America, the singer and actor reflected on the end of her marriage to Affleck and the personal reset that followed.
“I had to stop everything, and I took a year off,” Lopez said. “I canceled tours. I decided to just be home and sit in what had happened without running away from it through work, through another person, through anything.”
Lopez filed for divorce in 2024, ending a highly publicized reunion with Affleck that came nearly two decades after their first engagement in the early 2000s.
The pair married in 2022 but separated after two years.
During the interview, Lopez said the time away from work allowed her to reflect on her life and relationships.
“I was just at a point where I was like, ‘What is going on with you?’” she said. “Because I couldn’t blame anybody else.”
The performer explained that the break helped her reassess her priorities and learn to rely more on herself.
Lopez also said she has reached a point where she feels comfortable being on her own, something she admitted had been difficult for much of her life.
“I’ve always had a boyfriend,” she said. “There was always kind of someone in my life.”
Now, Lopez says she feels more confident and at peace.
“I am happy, and I am healthy, and I’m grateful,” she said. “And I’m surrounded by love.”
