New information has emerged following the death of actor Robert Carradine, who died at the age of 71.
According to documents obtained by TMZ, Carradine died on February 23 at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. The records also state that his remains were cremated and his ashes were later scattered at sea.
Carradine’s family confirmed his death shortly after it occurred, revealing that the actor had battled bipolar disorder for nearly two decades.
In a statement to Deadline, family members said they hoped his story would help raise awareness about mental health challenges.
“We hope his journey can shed light on and encourage addressing the stigma surrounding mental illness,” the statement read. The family also asked for privacy as they mourn his loss.
Carradine’s brother, actor Keith Carradine, spoke publicly about the situation, emphasizing that mental health struggles should not carry shame.
“There is no shame in having bipolar disorder,” he said. “It’s an illness that ultimately overwhelmed him.”
Keith Carradine said he wants his brother to be remembered not only for his career but also for his personal qualities.
“He was incredibly talented, and we’ll miss him every day,” he said, adding that his brother was known for his humor, wisdom, and accepting nature.
Robert Carradine was known for his work in films such as Revenge of the Nerds and television projects including Lizzie McGuire.
Following his death, actress Jamie Lee Curtis also shared a tribute remembering their past relationship. Curtis recalled the two meeting during an appearance on The Dinah Shore Show, where Carradine surprised the audience by kissing her on live television.
Curtis said the relationship later developed into a meaningful partnership that included time spent with Carradine’s daughter, describing the period as her first real experience with family life and domestic partnership.
She added that despite eventually going their separate ways, the two remained friends over the years. Curtis concluded her tribute by wishing Carradine peace and remembering the humor and warmth he brought to those around him.
