Mark Ruffalo is once again using his superstar status to wade into politics—and this time, he’s calling on New York’s governor to make billionaires pay up.

The Marvel actor took to Instagram to publicly urge Governor Kathy Hochul to raise taxes on the ultra-wealthy and major corporations. Backing the growing “Tax the Rich” movement, Ruffalo argued that increasing taxes on billionaires is the key to easing the financial pressure on everyday New Yorkers.

In a direct message to Hochul, Ruffalo didn’t mince words. “They can handle it, trust me,” he wrote, insisting that the wealthiest residents should shoulder more of the burden to fund essential services like childcare, housing, and public transit. In a video posted alongside his message, Ruffalo pointed to rising rent costs and childcare expenses that now average over $20,000 per year as evidence that working families are being squeezed.

Ruffalo framed the issue as a defining moment for Hochul, suggesting she must choose between protecting working families or continuing policies that favor the wealthy. He also highlighted an upcoming rally in Albany, where supporters plan to push for higher taxes on billionaires. According to the actor, a majority of New Yorkers support the idea of taxing corporations and the ultra-rich to improve affordability across the state.

This isn’t the first time Ruffalo has stepped into political debates. The outspoken actor has frequently used his platform to advocate for social and economic issues. But with this latest call to action, he’s placing himself squarely in the middle of New York’s heated affordability battle.
