Sydney Sweeney is heading back to the big screen for another round of psychological thrills. Lionsgate has officially greenlit The Housemaid’s Secret, a sequel to last year’s surprise blockbuster The Housemaid, which shattered expectations and cemented Sweeney’s status as Hollywood’s reigning “It” girl.

The original film, directed by Paul Feig and adapted from Freida McFadden’s viral bestseller, dominated the box office after its December 2025 debut, pulling in a staggering $133 million worldwide in just over two weeks on a $35 million budget. The film’s viral success and massive social media buzz made a follow-up all but inevitable.

“The global box office numbers and the social media frenzy clearly indicate that audiences have been captivated by the edge-of-your-seat experience of The Housemaid and are clamoring for more,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chair Adam Fogelson. “We’ve believed in these stories from day one, and we’re thrilled to bring the next chapter of Millie’s journey to the big screen.”

Sweeney will reprise her role as Millie Calloway, the enigmatic housemaid with a dark past, while Feig returns to direct and Rebecca Sonnenshine once again pens the screenplay. This time, Millie takes a job in a glittering penthouse owned by a billionaire tech mogul—only to uncover a sinister secret hidden behind the glossy facade. According to McFadden’s novel, which the sequel is based on, the new story dives even deeper into domestic horror and psychological suspense.

“But I still haven’t met Mrs. Garrick, or seen inside the guest bedroom,” reads a chilling passage from McFadden’s The Housemaid’s Secret. “I’m sure I hear her crying. I notice spots of blood on her white nightgowns when I’m doing laundry. One day I can’t help but knock on the door. When it swings open, what I see inside changes everything.”

Michele Morrone will reprise his role as Enzo, while Amanda Seyfried—who played Millie’s employer in the first film—teased a brief cameo. “I can pretty much guarantee I’ll pop up in some small way because it’s all about Syd and her adventures with this new family,” Seyfried said at the Palm Springs International Film Festival.

Production is set to begin later this year, with fans already eager for another taste of the twisted world that turned The Housemaid into one of the most unexpected hits of 2025.
