BTS returned to the spotlight in Seoul, but the BTS Gwanghwamun crowd quickly became the real headline. What started as a comeback celebration turned into a heated debate over how many fans actually showed up.

BTS Gwanghwamun Crowd Sparks Numbers Clash

The group held their comeback show at Gwanghwamun Square, marking the release of their new album “ARIRANG.” Fans packed the area to see the first live stage of “SWIM,” along with hits like “Butter” and “Dynamite.”

However, the crowd size became a flashpoint. City data from Seoul officials estimated around 40,000 to 42,000 people at peak time. Police figures reportedly backed that range.

Officials noted that the square itself holds about 22,000 people. Even with surrounding streets included, they suggested the total stayed near 40,000.

HYBE Pushes 100,000 Figure

HYBE offered a much bigger number. The company claimed attendance reached about 104,000. Their estimate included mobile network data, foreign visitors, and people moving in and out over time.

That difference fueled online debate almost instantly. Some fans argued HYBE used a broader method that captured total foot traffic. Meanwhile, others said the official numbers reflected real-time presence.

This gap highlights a familiar issue. Authorities often count people at one moment, while organizers track cumulative movement.

Safety Measures May Have Shifted Turnout

Before the show, forecasts suggested up to 260,000 people might gather. Yet the final turnout fell short of those projections.

Some analysts pointed to strict safety measures. Authorities sent emergency alerts warning people to avoid the area. Nearby subway stations skipped stops, and security checks were tightened.

As a result, some fans stayed away. Others said the precautions were necessary after recent concerns about crowd safety.

Even with the debate, one point stands. BTS still filled central Seoul with thousands of fans. No matter the final count, their pull remains undeniable.
