Emma Heming Willis has launched a new initiative aimed at advancing dementia research and supporting caregivers as her husband, actor Bruce Willis, continues to battle frontotemporal dementia.

The announcement came during the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration’s Hope Rising Benefit in New York, where Emma accepted the Susan Newhouse & Si Newhouse Award of Hope.

During her speech, she revealed the creation of The Emma & Bruce Willis Fund for Dementia Research and Caregiver Support.

Bruce Willis was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in 2023 after previously experiencing communication difficulties that were first identified as aphasia.

Emma said the experience of caring for her husband has shown her how difficult the disease can be for families.

“This journey has opened my eyes to the challenges countless families face when a loved one is living with frontotemporal dementia,” she told People.

“I’m deeply committed to supporting research while also advocating for caregivers who shoulder immense responsibilities daily.”

She added that the fund aims to help expand knowledge about the condition while also supporting families affected by the disease.

“Through this fund, I aim to deepen our understanding of FTD and ensure that affected families feel acknowledged, supported and less isolated,” she said.

Emma noted that the initiative also reflects Bruce Willis’ long-standing generosity.

“Bruce has always been known for his generosity and compassion, and I know he’d be proud to see this initiative helping families grappling with this disease,” she said.

The fund will be administered by the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) and will focus on raising awareness of frontotemporal dementia, supporting scientific research and providing resources for caregivers.

Bruce Willis, now 70, married Emma Heming in 2009. The couple share two daughters, Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11.

The actor also has three adult daughters from his previous marriage to actress Demi Moore.

Emma has previously spoken openly about her role as a caregiver. In 2025, she released a book titled “The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope and Yourself on the Caregiving Path,” which details her experience supporting her husband while navigating the challenges of the disease.
