Nearly six weeks after Nancy Guthrie vanished from her home near Tucson, Arizona, investigators are still searching for answers.
The mother of Savannah was reportedly taken from her residence on February 1, and despite ongoing efforts by law enforcement, no major breakthrough in the case has been announced.
Now a former FBI agent is raising concerns that a critical risk may not be receiving enough attention.
Jennifer Coffindaffer, who spent nearly three decades working with the FBI, recently shared her perspective on the case and warned that the suspect responsible for Guthrie’s disappearance may still pose a serious threat to the public.
“A crucial point that seems to be overlooked is that we have at least one kidnapper and possibly multiple murderers still roaming free,” Coffindaffer said.
According to the former agent, the possibility that the suspect remains at large means authorities must continue treating the case as an urgent public safety issue.
“While this appears to be a targeted abduction, similar to the Idaho murders, we’re still dealing with individuals capable of extreme violence who are on the loose,” she explained.
“Who might be their next target?”
Coffindaffer emphasized that her comments were not intended to cause panic but to highlight the importance of keeping community safety at the center of the investigation.
She suggested that investigators should focus on two key priorities: finding Guthrie and capturing whoever is responsible.
“The first priority is locating Nancy alive,” Coffindaffer said. “The second is apprehending the abductor, who is likely a murderer, and getting them off the streets.”
The former FBI agent also urged local authorities to increase communication with the public in order to generate new leads.
“Law enforcement should hold a brief press conference to share any additional details they can,” she said. “Information about vehicles, timelines or important dates could help the public provide useful tips.”
Coffindaffer noted that community members can play a vital role in solving cases like this one.
“The public is one of law enforcement’s most valuable assets in solving an abduction,” she said.
As the search for Nancy Guthrie continues, investigators have not publicly confirmed any suspects or persons of interest in the case.
Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the disappearance to contact local law enforcement.
