Ed Sheeran and music producer Benny Blanco say part of their appeal comes from being relatable.
The pair recently discussed their public image during an appearance on Blanco’s Friends Keep Secrets podcast, where they reflected on how fans often see them as more approachable than many traditional pop stars.
During the conversation, rapper and co-host Lil Dicky recalled how grounded Sheeran seemed even during the early days of his fame.
Blanco agreed, saying he believes both he and Sheeran represent something different in the music industry.
“I feel like Ed and I share this thing where there are plenty of guys who hit it big and you think, ‘Yeah, that tracks,’” Blanco said. “But we’re different. We’re noticeably approachable.”
The producer added that their personalities may help fans relate to them more easily.
“I think both of us, but especially me, give hope to the average Joe,” he joked.
Kristin Batalucco, who co-hosts the podcast with Lil Dicky, agreed with the sentiment, describing the group as “just a bunch of regular dudes.”
Blanco continued the conversation by comparing their image with celebrities who fit more traditional standards of star power.
“There are so many guys out there who are smoking hot and can do it all,” Blanco said, referencing high-profile entertainers known for their looks and charisma.
The discussion also touched on rising pop star Benson Boone, known for his acrobatic stage performances, including backflips during shows.
Blanco joked that Boone’s appearance sits somewhere between relatable and traditionally “hot,” while Lil Dicky pushed back, arguing the singer leans more toward the latter.
Despite the lighthearted debate, the podcast segment centered on how Sheeran and Blanco believe their authenticity and everyday personalities have played a role in connecting with fans worldwide.
