Music producer Benny Blanco is pushing back against online criticism about his hygiene after viewers noticed something unusual during his podcast debut.
The discussion started after the first episode of Blanco’s Friends Keep Secrets podcast aired in February. Some viewers pointed out that Blanco appeared to be sitting on a couch with visibly dirty feet, sparking a wave of comments online questioning his cleanliness.
During a recent episode featuring Ed Sheeran, Lil Dicky and Kristin Batalucco, Blanco addressed the chatter directly.
At one point in the conversation, Blanco asked Sheeran whether he showers every day.
“Yeah, sometimes twice a day—mostly twice a day, actually,” Sheeran replied.
Blanco seemed surprised by the answer, prompting Sheeran to joke that appearances can be misleading.
“I feel like I’m like you, though. I look like I don’t smell good,” Sheeran said, before adding that Blanco is actually “the best-smelling person” he knows.
Blanco quickly agreed with the assessment.
“I know, I smell good,” he said with a laugh.
During the conversation, Batalucco and Lil Dicky jokingly tested Blanco’s claim by smelling his hands, with Dicky confirming that Blanco usually smells fine.
The hygiene discussion comes after viewers flooded YouTube comments following the podcast’s premiere with jokes about Blanco’s feet.
One viewer wrote, “Good podcast, wash your feet Benny and wash the floors.”
Another joked, “Those dogs need to be hosed down.”
Despite the teasing, Blanco appeared to take the criticism in stride, turning the viral moment into a running joke during the podcast conversation.
