Miley Cyrus is revisiting the role that launched her global fame as Disney prepares to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Hannah Montana.
The singer and actor shared a trailer on social media announcing the upcoming Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, which will premiere on Disney+ on March 24, exactly two decades after the show first aired on Disney Channel.
In the preview, Cyrus walks onto the familiar set from the series and reflects on the impact the show had on her life and career.
“I’m already getting emotional,” she says at the start of the trailer.
The footage includes Cyrus putting on the iconic blonde wig associated with her character Hannah Montana, the pop star alter ego of teenage character Miley Stewart.
The special also highlights the family connections behind the show. Cyrus’ father, Billy Ray Cyrus, who played her dad Robby Ray Stewart in the series, appears dancing alongside her in the trailer. Her mother, Tish Cyrus, is also shown flipping through old photos with Miley.

The event will include a sit-down interview with podcast host Alex Cooper, who reflects on the show’s cultural influence during the trailer.
“This show defined a generation,” Cooper says.
Disney confirmed the anniversary program will be filmed in front of a live studio audience and will feature previously unseen archival footage, music moments and stories from the show’s production.
Cyrus recently hinted that something related to the anniversary was coming. In an earlier interview with Variety, she joked that her hairstyle change — including bangs similar to her Hannah Montana look — might have been a clue.
The original Hannah Montana premiered in 2006 and quickly became one of Disney Channel’s most successful series, turning Cyrus into an international pop culture star.
In a statement about the special, Cyrus said the character remains an important part of her identity.
“Hannah Montana will always be an integral part of who I am,” she said. “What began as a TV show evolved into a shared experience that shaped not only my life but the lives of countless fans.”
