Tracy Morgan says family has become the central focus of his life as he enters his late 50s.
The comedian and actor, now 57, reflected on his priorities while attending the New York City premiere of his new series The Fall & Rise of Reggie Dinkins on March 3.
When asked about what brings him the most happiness today, Morgan pointed to the people closest to him.
“My family, the mother of my child, my child, my fiancée — they’re what bring me joy now,” he said at the event.
During the conversation, Morgan’s co-star Erika Alexander jokingly asked whether he was speaking as himself or as his character from the series. Morgan responded with a laugh, saying the two perspectives are not far apart.
“Well, both. My life and Reggie’s seem to have a lot in common these days,” he said.
In the sports comedy, Morgan plays Reggie Dinkins, a former football star trying to rebuild his reputation after a gambling scandal. The story follows the character as he partners with a filmmaker to document his life.
Actor Daniel Radcliffe portrays the filmmaker in the series.
Morgan, best known for his work on 30 Rock, said he is excited to return to television with the project.
“I’m eager to get back to work. We’re ready to dive right in,” he said.
The series features a cast that includes Precious Way, Jalyn Hall, Bobby Moynihan and Megan Thee Stallion. It was created by Robert Carlock and Sam Means, with Morgan and Tina Fey serving as executive producers.
The Fall & Rise of Reggie Dinkins airs Mondays at 8:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
