Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s partnership with Netflix is reportedly facing increased scrutiny as several planned projects remain in early development.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a high-profile deal with the streaming platform in 2020 through their production company, Archewell Productions. While the agreement has produced some notable projects, several others are still in progress.
One of the projects drawing attention is an adaptation of Carly Fortune’s bestselling novel Meet Me at the Lake. The film was announced in 2023, but according to reports, it has not yet secured a director or cast.
Industry sources told Page Six that the pace of development has raised questions internally, noting that Netflix invested roughly $3 million to acquire the rights to the book.
Another project reportedly in development is an adaptation of Jasmine Guillory’s romantic novel The Wedding Date, though details about its production timeline remain limited.
Some of the couple’s recent work has made progress. The documentary Cookie Queen premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and received positive reactions from viewers. However, it has not yet secured a distribution deal or confirmed streaming platform.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding some projects, Harry and Meghan previously delivered one of Netflix’s biggest documentary releases with the series Harry & Meghan, which drew significant global viewership after its release.
Other content, including a documentary about polo, did not achieve the same level of attention.
The couple’s agreement with Netflix was widely reported to be a multi-year first-look deal following their departure from official royal duties. As development continues, industry observers say the next round of projects will likely shape the future of the partnership.
