Britney Spears is reportedly struggling with feelings of embarrassment and regret following a DUI arrest in California, according to a source close to the singer.

The California Highway Patrol arrested Spears on Wednesday night in Ventura County on suspicion of driving under the influence. Authorities released her the following morning, March 5.

An insider told People that the incident has been emotionally difficult for the pop star, particularly because of how it could affect her two sons.

“She’s incredibly upset and filled with regret,” the source said, referring to Spears’ sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden, 19. “The embarrassment is overwhelming, especially thinking about how this might affect her boys.”

According to the source, Spears has been focused on her relationship with her children and worries about disappointing them.

“Her love for them is immeasurable, and the last thing she wants is for them to feel like she’s let them down,” the person said.

Following the arrest, Spears’ representative said her sons are expected to spend time with her as she deals with the situation.

“Her sons will be spending time with her,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

The statement added that Spears’ support system is working on a plan to help her move forward after the incident.

“This regrettable situation is entirely inexcusable,” the statement read. “Britney is committed to taking the necessary steps to comply with the law. Our focus is making sure she has the support she needs during this difficult time.”
