Selena Gomez is opening up about one of her closest friendships in the music industry—and revealing that Taylor Swift may have written one of her songs with Gomez in mind.

During a recent appearance on the Friends Keep Secrets podcast, Gomez spoke candidly about her longtime bond with Swift while chatting with her husband Benny Blanco and co-host Lil Dicky.

While discussing their years of friendship, Gomez shared that Swift’s song “Dorothea,” from the 2020 album Evermore, was inspired by her.

“‘Dorothea’ is actually about me—it’s one of her songs,” Gomez said during the conversation.

According to Gomez, the track reflects many of the experiences they went through while growing up together in the spotlight.

“It captures so many moments in my life—relationships, family, love, heartbreak, all of it,” she explained.

The two stars first became friends as teenagers, long before they reached global superstardom. Gomez recalled that she was around 15 at the time, while Swift was 18, and both were still figuring out their careers and personal lives.

“We were just trying to understand life,” Gomez said. “But our view of each other has never changed.”

Listening to the song now, she says she’s impressed by how Swift was able to capture those early experiences through her songwriting.

“She has such a beautiful way with words,” Gomez said. “When I hear it now, I’m amazed by how she put those feelings into a song.”

“Dorothea,” which appears on Swift’s Evermore, includes lyrics about a woman who leaves her hometown to chase success—something fans have long speculated might mirror Gomez’s own rise in Hollywood and the beauty industry.

Gomez also revealed that Swift wrote another song about her years earlier, titled “Family,” which she said was created roughly a decade ago.

According to Gomez, the lyrics reflected their shared ambitions at the time—Gomez dreaming of a career in Hollywood while Swift envisioned performing for massive stadium crowds.

Looking back today, Gomez says it’s surreal to see how their dreams eventually became reality.

“We’ve been through so much together,” she said. “Heartbreak, love, life changes—everything.”

The pair have now been friends for more than 17 years, supporting each other through personal milestones and career highs.

And as Gomez noted, their lives seem to keep aligning in unexpected ways—including the fact that they both became engaged around the same time.

“It’s just the coolest thing,” she said.
