Justin Timberlake is heading back to court—this time to keep arrest footage out of the public eye.
The pop superstar has filed a legal petition to block the release of police body camera video from his June 2024 drunk driving arrest in Sag Harbor, New York. According to court filings, Timberlake’s attorneys argue that making the footage public would cause serious damage to his reputation and violate his privacy.
The “Mirrors” singer was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and issued two additional traffic citations after being pulled over. Police reports stated that Timberlake told officers he had consumed just one martini at a hotel bar before getting behind the wheel. He declined to take a breathalyzer test at the time.
In documents submitted to Suffolk County Supreme Court, Timberlake’s legal team claims the release of the bodycam footage would lead to “severe and irreparable harm” to both his personal and professional life. They argue the video would expose private details unrelated to government oversight and open him up to ridicule and harassment.
The legal filing comes after a Freedom of Information Law request sought access to the footage from the Sag Harbor Village Police Department.
In September 2024, Timberlake reached a plea deal, admitting guilt to a reduced charge of driving while impaired. He was sentenced to 25 hours of community service, fined $500 plus additional fees, and had his driver’s license suspended for 90 days.
After the court proceedings, Timberlake publicly acknowledged his mistake. “Even if you’ve had one drink, don’t get behind the wheel of a car,” he told reporters. “This is a mistake I have made, but I hope whoever is watching and listening right now can learn from this.”
Now, with the legal battle over the footage unfolding, the former *NSYNC star appears determined to prevent the arrest video from becoming the next viral headline.
