Daniel Radcliffe says he hopes his young son chooses a path far from the spotlight.
In a recent interview with WSJ Magazine, the 36-year-old actor reflected on his experience growing up as the face of the Harry Potter franchise and admitted he wouldn’t want his two-year-old to pursue acting or fame. Radcliffe explained that while he personally loved being on set, he recognizes how difficult and unusual that kind of childhood can be.
The actor, who rose to global fame at age 11, noted that he and his co-stars were fortunate to have strong support systems during the decade-long film series. He credited his parents and the consistent crew environment for helping him navigate early stardom. Still, he acknowledged that not every child actor has that same experience.
Radcliffe shares his son with longtime partner Erin Darke, and the couple keeps their family life private in New York City. He has even joked that he now understands the instinct some parents have to shield their children completely from public life. Looking ahead, Radcliffe has expressed interest in moving behind the camera, saying he hopes to direct a project he has written within the next several years.
