Eiza González is opening up about one of the most personal chapters of her life—and how she finally found peace with herself.
In honor of Eating Disorder Awareness Week, the 36-year-old actress shared a heartfelt reflection on Instagram, posting images from different stages of her life and detailing her long struggle with body image. González revealed that her complicated relationship with her body began after the sudden death of her father, when she coped with grief and depression through compulsive eating. By age 13, she said she had gained 30 pounds while navigating loss, puberty, and emotional turmoil.
Her challenges intensified when she entered the entertainment industry as a teenager. After landing roles in Lola: Érase una vez and later Sueña conmigo, González found herself under intense public scrutiny. She described how constant commentary about her appearance fueled body dysmorphia and an unhealthy fixation on weight. “I became obsessed—constantly weighing myself and tying my worth to a number,” she shared.
Over time, González realized that external validation never brought the fulfillment she sought. Instead, she says she learned how powerful mindset can be. The same energy once spent trying to shrink herself, she explained, can be redirected toward growth, ambition, and self-acceptance.
Now, González says she is “deeply committed” to choosing herself. While acknowledging that healing is ongoing, she expressed gratitude for the strength her body carries and the perspective she has gained. Her message serves as a reminder that recovery is not linear—but self-love can be transformative.
