Kim Kardashian is redefining what “moving on” looks like. In a candid new cover story with Complex, the 45-year-old mogul made it clear that despite her explosive split from Kanye West—now known as Ye—she still considers him family. “We’ll always be family,” Kardashian said, emphasizing that their shared focus remains on what’s best for their four children: North, 12, Saint, 10, Chicago, 8, and Psalm, 6. After everything that’s unfolded, it’s a statement that’s turning heads.

The comment carries serious weight given the chaos of the past few years. Kardashian filed for divorce in February 2021 after nearly seven years of marriage. What followed were public social media attacks, private messages leaked online, and a string of antisemitic remarks from Ye that cost him major partnerships—including Adidas—and severely damaged his reputation. At one point, Kardashian was visibly emotional on her reality show, pushing back on claims that she was keeping the kids from him. “This is a divorce, not a hostage situation,” she said bluntly.

Yet despite the turbulence, Kardashian recently surprised fans by rocking Yeezy heels during a December trip to Aspen—and even tagging the brand in a TikTok post. In her Complex interview, she shrugged off the move, saying she couldn’t ignore the look and wanted to give it a shout-out. For many observers, it was a surprisingly gracious nod to an ex whose behavior had made global headlines.

The stress of the split appears to have taken a physical toll. During the October premiere of her show, Kardashian revealed she’d been diagnosed with a minor brain aneurysm, something doctors connected to stress. Her psoriasis also flared up during that time. While scans at Cedars-Sinai confirmed the aneurysm was treatable, the emotional strain was undeniable as cameras captured her breaking down over the unraveling marriage.

Meanwhile, Ye made his own public gesture earlier this year. On January 26, he took out a full-page ad in The Wall Street Journal titled To Those I’ve Hurt, attributing past behavior to a 25-year-old car crash that he says caused an undiagnosed brain injury, as well as a four-month manic episode tied to bipolar disorder. He thanked his wife, Bianca Censori, for encouraging him to seek help. The timing—just days before his album Bully dropped—sparked plenty of skepticism about motive.

Despite the messy history, Kardashian’s actions suggest a complicated loyalty. She revealed she’s carefully preserved every outfit from Ye’s concert tours—including Glow in the Dark, Watch the Throne, and Yeezus—storing away the Margiela and Givenchy pieces for their children. SKIMS, now valued at $4 billion, and her expanding empire—including a NikeSKIMS collaboration and a role in Ryan Murphy’s upcoming Netflix legal drama All’s Fair—prove she’s thriving professionally. But holding onto those tour jackets? That hints at something deeper. The divorce may be final, but when it comes to Kim and Ye, the emotional ties are clearly still layered.
