President Donald Trump is facing backlash after suggesting that the intense media coverage surrounding Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance may be excessive.
Nearly three weeks after Guthrie vanished from her Tucson home, the case continues to dominate headlines. During a recent press briefing, Trump was asked about the investigation and the national attention it has received. His response surprised many.
“We need to start covering other topics as well, and see where that leads us,” Trump said, according to reports. He also described the situation as “truly tragic,” but did not elaborate further. When reporters sought clarification, the White House referred back to an earlier statement from Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who said the administration was keeping Guthrie’s family “in our thoughts and prayers.”
The president’s remarks struck some observers as dismissive, particularly given that he had previously expressed support for the family and pledged federal assistance in the search efforts. Shortly after news of the disappearance broke, Trump reportedly contacted Savannah Guthrie and vowed that the federal government would assist in any way possible.
Meanwhile, developments in the case continue. TMZ reported receiving another ransom note from individuals claiming to be responsible for Guthrie’s abduction. The note has since been turned over to the FBI. According to TMZ, the alleged abductors referenced media coverage in their demands, adding another unusual layer to an already complex and ongoing investigation.
