Robert Aramayo delivered one of the most emotional moments of the night at the 2026 BAFTA Film Awards, appearing visibly stunned as he accepted the award for Best Actor in a Leading Role.

The ceremony, held at London’s Royal Festival Hall, saw the 33-year-old English actor triumph in a stacked category that included Leonardo DiCaprio, Ethan Hawke, Timothée Chalamet, Jesse Plemons, and Michael B. Jordan. Aramayo won for his performance in I Swear, a biographical drama directed by Kirk Jones.

In the film, Aramayo portrays John Davidson, a Scottish man living with severe Tourette syndrome. His performance has been widely praised for its sensitivity and depth, and BAFTA voters ultimately placed him ahead of several Hollywood heavyweights.

Taking the stage, Aramayo admitted he was “absolutely floored,” calling the moment surreal. He specifically referenced DiCaprio while expressing disbelief at even being nominated in the same category. The actor also thanked director Kirk Jones and campaigner John Davidson for their support and trust.

In a heartfelt twist, Aramayo shared a personal story about Ethan Hawke, recalling a guest lecture Hawke gave during his time at Juilliard. He credited Hawke’s advice on longevity and self-care in the industry as something that stayed with him. “To now be nominated alongside you is truly extraordinary,” he said before wrapping up his speech with a modest, “I should probably stop now. Thank you all so very much.”
