Dennis Quaid is weighing in on the state of American politics, arguing that Hollywood and the broader political landscape have shifted significantly to the left in recent years.
The 71-year-old actor, who portrayed President Ronald Reagan in the 2024 biopic Reagan, shared his views during an appearance on The Greg Laurie Show. Host Pastor Greg Laurie referenced a recent podcast discussion in which comedian Dana Carvey reportedly said some Hollywood peers labeled him extreme simply for identifying as a “Clinton Democrat.” Quaid responded that such reactions are “unacceptable,” suggesting that political labels have changed dramatically over time.
Quaid said he does not consider himself a Republican but instead describes himself as a “common-sense independent” who tends to lean conservative. He argued that positions once considered moderate are now viewed differently, adding that he sees himself as someone guided more by practical thinking than party affiliation.
When the conversation turned to former President Donald Trump, Quaid agreed with Laurie’s characterization of Trump as personable and energetic. Quaid described Trump as “approachable” and “authentic,” adding that he believes Trump’s supporters connect with that perception. His comments add him to the list of Hollywood figures who have publicly expressed support for the former president.
