Actor Kiefer Sutherland was released from jail after posting a $50,000 bond following his arrest in Hollywood early Monday morning over an alleged confrontation with a ride-share driver. Los Angeles police say the incident involved both physical assault and criminal threats, though the investigation is still ongoing.
The 59-year-old actor, best known for his role as Jack Bauer on the hit series 24, was taken into custody shortly after midnight near the busy intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded to an assault call around 12:15 a.m. and identified Sutherland as the suspect.
Police allege that Sutherland entered a ride-share vehicle and became involved in an altercation with the driver, during which he allegedly assaulted the driver and made threats. Authorities said the driver did not require medical treatment at the scene but appeared shaken by the encounter. Sutherland was arrested and taken to the Hollywood Community Police Station for booking.
Los Angeles County jail records indicate Sutherland was booked on a felony charge in the early morning hours and released roughly seven hours later after posting bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on February 2. Officials have not yet released details about what led to the confrontation, nor have they confirmed whether alcohol or other factors were involved.
As of Tuesday evening, Sutherland’s representatives had not issued a public statement. The case remains under review by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, and authorities say additional information may be released as the investigation continues.
The arrest quickly made headlines and spread across social media, with many fans expressing surprise given Sutherland’s long-standing Hollywood career. While widely respected for his performances in films like The Lost Boys, Stand by Me, and Flatliners, as well as his award-winning work on 24, the actor has faced legal trouble in the past, including a 2007 jail sentence related to a drunk driving conviction.
For now, the focus remains on the pending legal process. Police have asked anyone with information related to the alleged incident to contact the LAPD’s Hollywood Division as the case moves forward.
