Cho Byeong Kyu is making his much-anticipated return to the big screen as a leading man.
On Monday, his agency HB Entertainment announced, “Cho Byeong Kyu has officially signed on to star in the upcoming film Finding Hidden Money (working title). He’s currently filming, with the movie set to premiere in the second half of the year. We look forward to your continued support and interest.”
Directed by Kim Sol Mae, Finding Hidden Money is a fast-paced action-comedy that follows a group of Gen Z friends who unwittingly become entangled with criminals chasing after 15 billion KRW (roughly 11 million USD) in illegal cash. Packed with unexpected twists, the film ultimately delivers a heartwarming message: that friendship is worth more than money.
Cho Byeong Kyu stars as Kim Ji Hun, a sharp-tongued, straight-shooting young man who’s just completed his mandatory military service. Rather than returning to college, he starts working as a delivery driver, using his beloved one-ton truck, affectionately nicknamed Bongorini, to support himself. Cho Byeong Kyu is expected to bring both humor and emotional depth to the role, anchoring the story with his signature energy and charm.
Over the years, Cho Byeong Kyu has built a reputation as one of Korea’s most versatile young actors, with standout performances in popular dramas like Who Are You: School 2015, Hot Stove League, The Uncanny Counter, and SKY Castle, as well as films such as Again 1997 and Dokgo Rewind. His performance in History of Scruffiness was particularly memorable, where he brought an eccentric yet deeply relatable character to life, further solidifying his place as a leading man.
With Finding Hidden Money, Cho Byeong Kyu is once again stretching his acting range, tackling comedic and action-heavy moments. His return to theaters has already generated significant buzz among fans and industry watchers alike.
Cho Byeong Kyu’s career briefly stalled in 2021 when allegations of school bullying during his time studying in New Zealand surfaced. Both the actor and his agency strongly denied the accusations. Later investigations revealed the claims were fabricated, and the individuals responsible issued public apologies, clearing the way for Cho Byeong Kyu to resume his career.
Now, with Finding Hidden Money, Cho Byeong Kyu is back and ready to take the spotlight once more.
