In a recent interview, Seo Hyun shared her thoughts on what she values in a partner, revealing that she prefers sincere, upfront men over those who play games in relationships.
On Saturday, the YouTube channel Yoo Yeon Seok’s Weekend Talk dropped a new episode titled “Waking Up as a Silver Spoon Supporting Character in a Novel: Drunk on Bomb Shots, One Night with the Male Lead, and Sharing Life Stories.” The video features Yoo Yeon Seok talking about The First Night with the Duke, joined by its co-stars Seo Hyun and Ok Taec Yeon.
In the episode, Seo Hyun explained that her character, who finds herself transported into a romance novel, is more drawn to the second male lead, Jung Soo Gyeom, than the main lead (played by Ok Taec Yeon). She explained, “Jung Soo Gyeom is a gentleman with a warm, caring personality, traits that women often find attractive.”
When Yoo Yeon Seok turned the conversation to Seo Hyun’s relationship preferences, she was quick to respond. “I definitely prefer the sincere type,” she said. “I can’t stand the bad boy persona.” Taec Yeon pushed the discussion further, asking, “What if he’s a bad boy, but treats you well?” Seo Hyun was clear with her answer: “That would be even worse.” She noted that in the drama, her character can connect with the male lead because he isn’t a bad boy.
The conversation then shifted to the topic of playing hard to get, something often associated with bad boys in relationships. Seo Hyun didn’t hold back, agreeing with Yoo Yeon Seok’s observation. “Yes, I don’t like it when people treat love like a game,” she said. “It’s not about playing games or pretending to be someone you’re not.”
When asked whether being too sincere could be off-putting, Seo Hyun explained, “That’s why I have such high standards. But if I had to choose, I would always choose sincerity. I find people who are honest with their feelings incredibly attractive. It’s much more admirable when a man shows his true feelings, even if it’s a little awkward, than if he plays games to win someone over.”
On a lighter note, Seo Hyun also talked about the dynamic between her character and the male lead in The First Night with the Duke. This romantic fantasy follows a college student whose soul is mysteriously transported into the body of a character in a romance novel. This leads to a wild and unexpected night with the obsessive male lead, setting off a series of events that no one could have predicted.
The First Night with the Duke has been gaining attention for its fresh take on romantic tropes, mixing fantasy, humor, and unexpected twists.
