Actor Lee Jong Won and former Weki Meki member Kim Do Yeon are set to headline the upcoming drama Moonflower’s Prayer (working title).
A source from the drama department revealed to My Daily on Friday that Lee Jong Won and Kim Do Yeon have been confirmed as the leads for Moonflower’s Prayer.
The series follows Cho Seol, a sword-maker in a prisoner village, who encounters Baek Je Hee, an exiled general from an enemy nation. Their paths intertwine in a fate filled with passion and conflict, drawing them irresistibly towards each other. However, their beautiful yet tragic romance, both sensual and heart-wrenching, hurtles towards an inevitable catastrophe.

Lee Jong Won will step into the role of Baek Je Hee, the supreme warrior of the Gae-ro nation. While blessed with striking good looks inherited from his mother, his piercing gaze betrays a lethal intensity that overwhelms those around him. Je-hee is characterized as a ruthless figure, devoid of compassion or mercy, who maintains a solitary existence.
Kim Do Yeon will portray Yang Cho Seol, a master swordsmith. Despite working amidst ashes, she maintains an air of purity and elegance reminiscent of a freshly bloomed peony. Her seemingly delicate yet unyielding demeanor commands respect, while her deep, dark eyes sparkle with intelligence, deterring even the most unscrupulous individuals from crossing her.

This marks a significant milestone for Kim Do Yeon, as it’s her first leading role. Previously, she played younger versions of Lee Ha Nee in One the Woman and Jun Ji Hyun in Mount Jiri. Following the disbandment of Weki Meki last year, Kim’s dedication to her craft led her to study acting in the UK, leaving fans eager to see her tackle this new challenge.
The script, penned by Jang Yoo Ha, known for Netflix’s hit series Doona!, is set to begin production soon.
