Henry Cavill is heading back into spy territory, and fans are once again asking the same question: Why isn’t he James Bond?
Netflix has officially cast the former Superman star in a new untitled spy comedy alongside Kevin Hart, instantly reigniting years of speculation surrounding Cavill’s connection to the iconic 007 franchise.
The project, directed by McG and based on a short story by Sean Lewis, follows two rival spies whose lives collide after their wives become friends during a Lamaze class. What begins as an awkward rivalry soon spirals into a dangerous mission as the men prepare for fatherhood.
Henry Cavill Sparks Bond Debate Again
The announcement quickly sent social media into overdrive.
For more than a decade, Cavill has remained one of the most popular fan choices to succeed Daniel Craig as James Bond. His performances in The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and Mission: Impossible – Fallout convinced many viewers he already possesses the charm, physicality and screen presence associated with 007.
Several fans pointed out that Cavill continues landing spy roles while never actually securing Bond.
Others argued that the new Netflix movie could signal he is no longer being considered for the famous role.
Cavill Has Addressed Bond Rumors Before
Cavill has previously spoken openly about the possibility of becoming Bond.
The actor has said he never rejected the role and that timing simply worked against him. With Daniel Craig remaining in the franchise for years and Cavill juggling commitments to Superman and The Witcher, the opportunity never materialized.

As of now, no actor has officially been announced as the next James Bond.
