Nicki Minaj’s absence from Donald Trump’s Freedom 250 celebration is starting to raise questions.
The festival is scheduled to run in Washington, D.C. from June 25 to July 10 as part of the Trump administration’s Freedom 250 initiative marking America’s 250th birthday.
The lineup was announced on May 27 and included Martina McBride, C+C Music Factory, Vanilla Ice, Milli Vanilli, Young MC, Morris Day and The Time, The Commodores, Flo Rida, and Bret Michaels.
Then the trouble started. Several performers, including Morris Day and The Time, Young MC, Milli Vanilli, The Commodores, Martina McBride, and Bret Michaels, reportedly withdrew from the event. Some said they did not realize the celebration was tied to Trump.
But another name also drew attention: Nicki Minaj.
She was not announced for the lineup at all.
Maxwell Frost Says Nicki Minaj’s MAGA Support May Be Costing Her
Rep. Maxwell Frost, a Democrat from Florida, was asked by TMZ why Minaj was not part of the Freedom 250 event. Frost said the rapper “should be headlining the show” because, in his words, she is “full MAGA now.”
Minaj has openly shown support for Trump since late 2025 and has appeared at Trump-aligned events. That made her absence from the Washington celebration feel noticeable to critics.
When asked why she had not volunteered to perform, Frost said he was not sure, then offered one theory. “Maybe it’s hurting her wallet now,” he said.
Frost went further, claiming that “more than half” of Minaj’s fans are no longer supporting her because she has “chosen to stand on the side of hate and bigotry.”
That is a sharp political attack. It also turns Minaj’s absence into something larger than a missing name on a festival poster.
The Freedom 250 Lineup Has Already Gotten Messy
Frost also criticized the event itself.
Asked whether Minaj should step in and headline, he said he did not think the event should happen at all, “so no.” He still called her absence “curious.”
The congressman also weighed in on the wave of artists backing out. Frost said he spent six years working at Coachella and argued that artists need to know exactly what they are signing up for before agreeing to perform.
“I mean, usually when you’re booking an artist, it’s important that they know what they’re performing at and who’s involved and who’s not involved and they have a clear picture,” Frost said.
He suggested that fuller disclosure would prevent artists from pulling out after learning an event is not bipartisan, but instead “really a Trump thing.”
Nicki Minaj’s Political Turn Keeps Drawing Scrutiny
Minaj’s political shift has already put her in a strange position with parts of her fan base.
The rapper built one of the most loyal fandoms in pop and hip-hop, but her open Trump support has divided fans and critics. Her absence from Freedom 250 now gives opponents a new angle: if she supports the movement, why is she not performing at its biggest stage?
Frost’s answer was blunt. He suggested the politics may be bad for business.
There is no confirmation that Minaj was asked to perform, turned down the event, or avoided it for financial reasons. Frost was offering a theory, not a proven fact. Still, the timing is awkward.
A Trump-linked celebration is losing performers. Several artists have reportedly backed away. Minaj, one of the most famous pro-Trump entertainers in the conversation, is not on the bill.
For critics, that absence says plenty. For Minaj, it raises a new question: has her MAGA turn started costing her more than attention?
