Selena Gomez just gave fans a very different version of herself, and this one comes with red curls.
The Rare Beauty founder, 33, has spent most of her career tied to rich brunette hair. It has been part of her public image from her Disney days through her pop years and into her current run on ‘Only Murders in the Building.’ Now, she appears ready to shake that up.
Gomez showed off a fiery auburn hair change in an Instagram photo dump shared on June 2, while giving fans a look at her latest work trip to London.
“Wild things happening with @onlymurdershulu while adoring London,” Gomez wrote in the caption.

The carousel mixed work moments, tourist shots, and behind-the-scenes snaps with Steve Martin and Martin Short. At first, Gomez appeared with her usual dark chocolate hair while posing backstage in an Elizabethan-style dress. She also took photos near the London Eye and Big Ben. Then came the switch.
Gomez revealed the auburn look while lounging. Her red hair was styled in bouncy curls, with darker brunette roots still visible. She kept the rest of the look relaxed, wearing a black cropped tank top, gray sweatpants, and black eyeliner. In another mirror selfie video, Gomez zoomed in on the copper-toned curls while lying on the bed and pouting at the camera.
Her Red Hair Has A Long History
The London look may feel like a major change, but Gomez has played with red tones before.
During her ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ era, she wore cherry cola-red streaks through her long dark hair, giving her Disney image a sharper, more playful edge. In 2013, she also debuted red hair on Instagram with the caption, “red hair, she don’t care.”
She returned to auburn tones again in 2018 while promoting ‘Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation.’ At the time, Gomez wore dark auburn highlights in a wavy lob, adding a softer tint to her brunette base.
More recently, she leaned into a deeper cherry-red shade at Nicola Peltz Beckham’s ‘Lola’ premiere in 2024. That look came with long front bangs and a big blowout, giving the color a more dramatic red-carpet feel.
