Tom Hardy’s reported ‘MobLand’ exit has brought one of his most infamous Hollywood clashes back into focus.
The 48-year-old actor has reportedly been dropped from the Paramount+ drama’s third season after alleged tension during production. Reports claim Hardy clashed with producers Jez Butterworth and David Glasser while filming season two, with complaints that he was late to set, wanted script input, pushed for dialogue changes, and disliked the show becoming more ensemble-focused.
The alleged drama has also revived memories of Hardy’s tense relationship with Charlize Theron on the set of ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’.
Tom Hardy And Charlize Theron’s Feud Was No Secret
Rumors of trouble between Hardy and Theron circulated around the 2015 release of ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’. Hardy denied that Theron had any reason to be scared of him, saying she was too serious and intense as an actor to be intimidated.
Zoë Kravitz later confirmed there was “beef” between the two during filming, saying they simply “didn’t get along” and “weren’t vibing.”
Hardy and Theron eventually addressed the tension themselves in a 2020 interview. Theron admitted she may not have had enough empathy for Hardy stepping into the role once played by Mel Gibson. Hardy also acknowledged that Theron “needed a better, perhaps more experienced, partner” in him. He said he was “over my head in many ways.”
The Breaking Point Reportedly Came After Hardy Was Late
More details came out in the 2022 book ‘Blood, Sweat & Chrome: The Wild And True Story Of Mad Max: Fury Road’.
Camera operator Mark Goellnicht recalled a major turning point when Hardy allegedly arrived three hours late after a special request had been made for him to be on time. According to the account, Theron reached her limit and angrily said producers should fine him for every minute the crew was held up.
Goellnicht claimed Hardy then approached Theron in an aggressive way, leaving her feeling threatened. Theron confirmed the atmosphere had become serious. “It got to a place where it was kind of out of hand,” she said, adding that she “didn’t feel safe.”
A female producer was reportedly brought in to help calm the situation, though Theron later said she still felt “pretty alone.”
George Miller Later Addressed The Tension
Director George Miller later said Hardy and Theron were “very different performers.”
He described Hardy as brilliant but difficult to pull out of his trailer at times, while Theron was “incredibly disciplined” and often first on set.
Miller said there was no real excuse for the disruption. “There’s no excuse for it,” he said, adding that Hollywood sometimes uses strong performances to excuse behavior that could have been avoided.
Theron also later apologized for how the conflict affected the rest of the cast. “We should have been better,” she said.
Now, with Hardy’s reported ‘MobLand’ tension making headlines, that old ‘Mad Max’ feud has returned for a reason. It remains one of the clearest examples of how rough things can get when big talent, pressure, and clashing work styles collide.
