Charlize Theron brought the air element to life for Elle’s Summer 2026 ‘Women of The Odyssey’ issue.

The actress joined Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, and Lupita Nyong’o for the magazine’s four-cover feature tied to Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film ‘The Odyssey’. Each actress represented a different element: Hathaway as water, Zendaya as earth, Nyong’o as fire, and Theron as air.

Styled by Law Roach and photographed by Norman Jean Roy, Theron leaned into a sharp, windblown fashion mood that matched her element.

Charlize Theron Brings Air Energy To Elle

Theron appeared on one of the Elle covers in a Mugler top, with her blonde curls styled to look caught in motion. The gray-toned images gave the shoot a misty, stormy feel, matching the air theme without making it too literal.

The 50-year-old actress plays Calypso in Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’. In Homer’s story, Calypso is the sea nymph who keeps Odysseus on her island for seven years.

Theron said she was drawn to the role because it gave her something different from what people expected.

“I was given a chance to do something that I haven’t had a ton of opportunity to do, because she’s a little bit of everything,” she told Elle. She added, “A lot of people on their own cast me in this movie, and they cast me very differently.”

Theron’s Max Mara Suit Gets A Risky Twist

In another look, Theron wore a crisp ivory Max Mara pantsuit styled with the jacket open and no visible base layer underneath.

The blazer featured structured shoulders, clean lines, a notch lapel, and a cutaway hemline that gave the suit a sharper architectural shape. The matching trousers were high-waisted and pleated, falling into a wide-leg silhouette. A small Dior earring was pinned to the lapel as a brooch, adding a subtle detail to the otherwise minimal look.

The styling worked because the suit stayed powerful and precise, while the open-jacket approach gave it a riskier editorial edge.

Windblown Hair Completes The Shoot

Theron’s blonde hair was styled in curls and crimped waves, with one photo showing it blown backward as if caught in a sudden gust.

The movement of her hair contrasted with the strict tailoring of the suit. Against a misty, cloud-heavy background, the images felt cinematic without being overworked.

For another look, Theron wore a white Vivienne Westwood Couture gown with a sweetheart neckline and layered folds across the bodice. The fitted waist and column skirt gave the look a more classic, sculptural finish.

Theron Confirms Her ‘Odyssey’ Role

There had been speculation about Theron’s role in ‘The Odyssey’, with some fans guessing she might play Athena or Circe. Elle confirmed she is playing Calypso, a role Nolan reportedly had in mind for her from the start.

Nolan praised Theron as “one of the great actresses of her generation” and said she embraced the difficult balance required for the role.

Theron also spoke about the physically demanding shoot, including intense stunts, and said the part gave her a chance to avoid easy typecasting.

Fans praised the Elle cover online, with comments calling the shoot “superb,” “amazing,” and “WOW.”

Between the Max Mara suit, windblown styling, and Calypso reveal, Theron’s Elle cover made the air element feel sleek, sharp, and just dangerous enough.
