The actress joined Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, and Lupita Nyong’o for the magazine’s four-cover feature tied to Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film ‘The Odyssey’. Each actress represented a different element: Hathaway as water, Zendaya as earth, Nyong’o as fire, and Theron as air.

Theron appeared on one of the Elle covers in a Mugler top, with her blonde curls styled to look caught in motion. The gray-toned images gave the shoot a misty, stormy feel, matching the air theme without making it too literal.
The 50-year-old actress plays Calypso in Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’. In Homer’s story, Calypso is the sea nymph who keeps Odysseus on her island for seven years.
Theron said she was drawn to the role because it gave her something different from what people expected.
“I was given a chance to do something that I haven’t had a ton of opportunity to do, because she’s a little bit of everything,” she told Elle. She added, “A lot of people on their own cast me in this movie, and they cast me very differently.”
