Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster are reportedly facing an unexpected request from his ex-wife, Deborra-Lee Furness.
Jackman and Furness ended their 27-year marriage after announcing their separation in September 2023. Their divorce was settled in June 2025, months after Jackman went public with Foster.
Now, a new report claims Furness wants to meet with both Jackman and Foster in hopes of easing the tension and moving forward.
Hugh Jackman Reportedly Surprised By Ex-Wife’s Request
According to New Idea Magazine, Jackman and Foster were “blindsided” by Furness’s request for a meeting.
A source claimed the move is not about Furness trying to attack Foster or create more drama. Instead, it is reportedly about closure.
“This isn’t about Deb being angry or wanting to read Sutton the riot act. It’s about closure,” the insider said.
Furness had reportedly avoided the idea of speaking directly with Foster for a long time. But insiders now claim she believes the meeting may be necessary if they are going to move past the awkwardness.
“For the longest time, Deb swore off the idea of even being in the same room as Sutton,” the source claimed. “But at this point it feels like something she needs to check off her list.”
Furness Reportedly Wants To Speak Her Truth
The source said Furness is not trying to interfere with Jackman and Foster’s relationship. Instead, she allegedly wants a chance to speak openly after months of painful public moments.
The insider claimed it has been difficult for Furness to watch Jackman and Foster appear together in places she once visited with him.
“Watching Hugh and Sutton parade around the city, openly flaunting their romance and mingling with all the same people they used to socialize with as a couple, is incredibly painful and humiliating,” the source said.
The insider added that the situation might be easier if the couple were not so visibly affectionate in public.
Met Gala Appearance Reportedly Hurt Furness
Jackman and Foster’s Met Gala appearance earlier this month reportedly made things worse.
Jackman and Furness attended the event together several times during their marriage, and sources claim it had been one of her favorite nights out with him.
“Deb had been warned Hugh would be appearing with Sutton, but it still felt like a knife to the heart seeing them there,” an insider said.
The source added that the Met Gala used to be Jackman and Furness’s major public night as a couple.
“This was her and Hugh’s ‘big night out’ for the year,” the insider claimed.
According to the report, Jackman and Furness had previously agreed to alternate Met Gala appearances after their split to avoid uncomfortable run-ins. But that arrangement was allegedly made before his relationship with Foster became so public.
Furness Reportedly Hoped Jackman Would Go Solo
Furness reportedly skipped the Met Gala this year as she continued dealing with the emotional aftermath of the divorce.
A source claimed she had hoped Jackman might attend alone, rather than use the event to create new public memories with Foster.
“Part of her hoped he might have gone solo again,” the insider said.
The source added that seeing Jackman attend with Foster added “an extra layer of hurt.”
The reported tension also comes as Jackman and Furness are said to still be dealing with their former marital home in New York, which has allegedly created more strain after the divorce.
