The photo allegedly came from backstage at Austin City Limits Festival in 2024. Samsung has denied intentional misuse and says it relied on a content partner’s rights assurance.

The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. Lipa claims Samsung used her likeness to help market and sell TVs across the United States. Samsung Says A Partner Cleared The Image

Samsung has pushed back against the claim. The company said it used the image only after a content partner assured Samsung that permission had been secured. That defense may explain the chain of events. However, it does not erase the larger rights question now sitting in court.

The dispute also lands at an awkward time for big brands. Companies rely on massive content pipelines, outside vendors and fast retail campaigns. But celebrity likeness rights still demand careful clearance. One weak link can turn a product rollout into a legal headline.
