Kim Kardashian’s law journey appears to be on pause, and the internet has plenty to say about it.

The 45-year-old reality star and business mogul is reportedly taking a break from the California bar exam after failing her July 2025 attempt. According to reports, Kardashian skipped the February exam and has no plans to sit for the July test either, meaning she may not try again until 2027.

For someone who has made her legal ambitions a major part of her public image, the pause has become a branding problem. It also revived another awkward detail: Kardashian previously admitted she used ChatGPT for legal questions and blamed the tool for giving her wrong answers.

Kim Kardashian Reportedly Steps Back From Bar Exam

Kardashian has only taken the full California bar exam once. However, she previously took the California “baby bar” exam, which was required for her legal apprenticeship path, three times before finally passing on her fourth attempt in 2021.

Last November, she told followers she had failed the full California bar after sitting for the July exam. “Well … I’m not a lawyer yet,” she wrote on Instagram. “I just play a very well-dressed one on TV.”

The line referenced her role as a lawyer on Ryan Murphy’s ‘All’s Fair’. She then insisted she was not giving up.

“Six years into this law journey, and I’m still all in until I pass the bar,” Kardashian wrote. “No shortcuts, no giving up, just more studying and even more determination.”

Now, the reported break is making critics question how serious the plan really is.

Kim Said The Failure Hurt Her Confidence

Kardashian later admitted the failure hit her hard.

“I took a minute to process that, and instantly, when I got my results, I didn’t feel good about it,” she told Time. “I was really uncomfortable and not confident for a while.”

She also said she wanted to speak about the result before it spread online.

“You get the results on a Friday, and I knew Sunday morning they were going to be live on the internet,” she said. “So I wanted to mention it first and let people know that it didn’t go my way.”

On ‘The Kardashians’, she previously became emotional while discussing the pressure of studying, saying she felt close to a “mental breakdown.”

“I’m absolutely gonna cry cause it’s so exhausting,” she said, adding that she had “hit a wall” during prep.

Internet Says Money Cannot Buy Passing The Bar

Online reaction has been blunt.

Some users argued Kardashian should have kept the journey private until she passed. “If this is true, she should have just moved in silence until she got it,” one commenter wrote. Another suggested the law journey became reality show content, adding that public discussion still benefits her brand.

Others were less forgiving. “Imagine having all the resources and privilege in the world and still can’t pass an exam,” one commenter wrote. Another added, “All the money in the world can’t buy intellectual curiosity. It’s like any career that requires study, you have to learn it. It doesn’t just happen by wearing the right clothes or being surrounded by the right people.”

One user argued that passing the bar requires full-time discipline, writing, “To pass the bar, you have to treat studying it like a full time job and I’m willing to bet she’s not doing that.”

Kim Had Said ChatGPT Made Her Fail Tests

Kardashian’s bar exam pause is also bringing back her viral Vanity Fair interview, where she admitted she had used ChatGPT for legal advice.

“I use it for legal advice,” Kardashian said. “When I am needing to know the answer to a question I’ll take a picture and snap it and put it in there.”

Then came the part the internet has not forgotten. “They’re always wrong,” she said. “It has made me fail tests all the time.”

Kardashian said she even scolded the program after getting wrong answers. “I will talk to it and say, ‘Hey, you’re going to make me fail. How does that make you feel?’” she told Teyana Taylor during the interview.

Taylor and Kardashian joked that ChatGPT was her “frenemy,” but online critics were less amused. Many argued that relying on AI for legal study only made her law journey look less serious.

So far, Kardashian has built a public image around ambition, reinvention, and criminal justice reform. But the bar exam is proving to be a different kind of branding problem.
