Jimmy Kimmel’s Melania Trump Joke Has Created An ‘Odd’ White House Twist

Jimmy Kimmel says his feud with Donald and Melania Trump may have done something unexpected: brought the first couple together.

The late-night host addressed the backlash during his Wednesday monologue after both Trump and Melania called for ABC to fire him over a joke he made during a fake White House Correspondents’ dinner roast. Kimmel had described Melania as having the “glow” of an “expectant widow,” a line that quickly drew anger from both the president and first lady.

Trump has clashed with Kimmel for years. Melania’s public response, however, made the fight feel bigger.

Jimmy Kimmel Mocks Trump And Melania’s Joint Backlash

Melania called Kimmel a “coward” and criticized his “atrocious behavior,” urging ABC to remove him from the air.

Kimmel, naturally, turned the whole thing into more material. “Our first couple, Donald and Melania,” Kimmel said, “lately have seemed closer than ever, and I like to think I played a part in that.” The audience applauded as Kimmel put his hand to his chest, pretending to be touched by the idea that he had somehow improved the Trump marriage.

The joke worked because Trump and Melania rarely appear united in public controversies this directly. This time, they both aimed at the same target.

Kimmel Points To Awkward White House Hand-Holding Moment

Kimmel then played a clip from Wednesday’s White House state dinner, where Trump and Melania stood with King Charles and Queen Camilla.

In the video, Melania appeared to pull her hand away from Trump. A few moments later, Trump nudged her hand with his pinky. She eventually held his hand again, though Kimmel did not let the moment pass quietly.

“Considering the week I’ve had with the first couple, I’m just going to say that is a completely normal way to interact for two people who are very much in love,” Kimmel joked.

Then came another jab. “Maybe that’s why his hands are all bruised, from Melania swatting them away,” he added.

It was exactly the kind of personal Trump joke that tends to ignite MAGA backlash, especially when Melania is pulled into it.

Jon Stewart Says Trump May Have Helped Kimmel

Kimmel has faced serious blowback from Trump allies before. Last September, a MAGA backlash over his material reportedly led to the comedian being off air for several days.

This time, though, ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ appears to be continuing as scheduled.

Jon Stewart also weighed in on the larger fight, arguing that Trump’s reaction may end up hurting him more than Kimmel. “Donald Trump will make America great again, just not in the way that he intended,” Stewart said on ‘The Weekly Show.’ Stewart predicted that the response to Trump’s “fragility and impulsiveness and incompetence” would push unexpected people to rise above the chaos.

For now, Kimmel seems more than willing to keep the fight alive. If Trump and Melania wanted the joke to disappear, they may have given it a longer shelf life instead.
