Russell Brand tried to explain the Bible verse that comforted him in court. Then live TV did what live TV does best: it made the moment deeply uncomfortable.

The former comedian appeared on ‘Piers Morgan Uncensored’ while promoting his new book, ‘How to Become a Christian in 7 Days.’ He brought the same Bible he had carried to a Southwark Crown Court appearance earlier this year, where he pleaded not guilty to serious charges.

Brand, 50, is scheduled to stand trial on June 16, 2026. He faces multiple charges, including sexual assault and indecent assault. He denies all allegations.

Brand Could Not Find The Passage On Air

During the interview, Piers Morgan asked Brand why he had taken the Bible into court and which passages had mattered to him.

Brand appeared hesitant, then began flipping through the pages.

“It was this, from Isaiah,” he said at first.

Then he stopped. It was not the verse.

He kept searching. The silence stretched. Brand muttered, “Man, I didn’t mark it before,” while Morgan let the moment sit and glanced toward the camera.

At one point, Brand tried again, saying, “It says here,” before pausing and going back to the pages.

After nearly two minutes, he gave up.

“The verse that I was looking at that day was… not this,” he said. “I can’t actually find the verse that I had that day. But this is good enough, this is from Isaiah 12.”

The internet pounced. Viewers compared the exchange to something from ‘The Office,’ with some asking how Brand could be carrying a marked Bible and still not find the passage he said had helped him.

Brand Later Said He Found It

A few days later, Brand responded on X with a video of himself sitting outside with his Bible. “Still looking for that passage, actually,” he said, before claiming he had found the verse, which he said had been “marked all along.” He tagged Morgan and wrote, “Wait! @piersmorgan I’ve found that verse!!”

Brand added, “The really important thing is that we, you, me all of us are loved. And not because of anything we have accomplished or ever could achieve. But because of who loves us.”

In the clip, he said sitting in a glass box at Crown Court while “accused of heavy stuff” led him to turn to faith. He also suggested “the pressure of the circumstances” explained why he struggled to find the verse during Morgan’s show.

His Trial Is Set For June

Brand’s legal case began after allegations surfaced in September 2023 through a joint investigation by Channel 4’s ‘Dispatches’ and ‘The Sunday Times.’ The allegations involve incidents said to have taken place between the late 1990s and early 2000s. Brand has consistently denied all allegations of non-consensual activity.

Detective Chief Inspector Tariq Farooqi of the Metropolitan Police previously said the investigation remains ongoing and that women who came forward are being supported by specially trained officers.

For Brand, the TV moment was clearly embarrassing. For everyone watching, it added another strange scene to an already highly charged public case.
